Meals on Wheels

Is Meals on Wheels right for you?

To qualify for Meals on Wheels, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Age 60 or over;
  • Who are homebound;
  • Incapacitated due to accident, illness, or frailty;
  • Unable to prepare meals safely, or lack the knowledge and skills to prepare meals;
  • Lacking support from family, friends, neighbors, health aide or other caregivers to help secure meals;
  • Who are spouses of homebound older individuals, regardless of age, if an assessment indicates that receipt of the meal is in the best interest of the client;
  • Disabled who reside at home with an older eligible individual.

Each home delivered meal includes meat, fish or pasta, vegetables, bread, juice, fruit or dessert and milk. All menus are approved by a qualified dietitian and provide at least one-third of the recommended daily dietary allowances set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We do not provide meals for special diets.

Meals on Wheels are delivered by our hardworking employees, as well as dedicated volunteers. Recipients also receive a monthly menu and newsletter.

Needed Donations

Although payment is not required, a small donation of $2.00 per meal is needed.  It costs over $8.00 to prepare and deliver a home bound meal. All payments are strictly confidential. Your donation goes directly into the Home Delivered Meals operating grant, to defray the costs of food preparation and delivery expenses. Our Home Delivered Meals office is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more information, call us at : (732) 367-1401.

Weekend and Holidays

Many of our Monday through Friday Home Delivered Meals clients have no other family or community support and cannot provide meals for themselves on weekends and holidays. These individuals are eligible to receive weekend Meals on Wheels.

Each weekend home delivered meals participant receives a hot or cold lunch for Saturday and Sunday. Holiday meal participants receive hot or cold lunch for each holiday. Special holiday meals are prepared and delivered for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Like all our food, each meal is approved by a qualified dietician, and has at least one third of the recommended daily dietary allowances set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  We do not provide meals for special diets.

Please note: The demand for Meals on Wheels is extremely high, and increases each year. As a result, we must carefully review each case to ensure our limited resources go to the neediest.
